Domination Maps
Domination maps allow a twist on standard team-oriented
playing styles. Points are gathered in this gametype by controlling individual
control points in the level. The longer that a team controls a control point,
the higher their score accumulates. Maps have multiple control points in them,
which forces a team to strategize and reallocate their members to control different
control points simultaneously, while killing their opponents as well. This form
of combat is only intensified with the addition of a translocator. While the
translocator's primary function is to allow the player access to difficult to
reach areas of the map, the tool can also be used to kill opponents.
My own experience with level design taught me that
generally speaking, any Deathmatch map can become a Domination map except in
rare cases when the layout of the map simply denies an enjoyable playing experience
when subjected to the rules of the Domination gametype. For this reason, you'll
generally find most of my Deathmatch maps are converted to their Domination
counterpart.
