A unique gametype, Assault comes the closest to mimicking
a Single Player gametype in multiplayer. Like a Single Player map, an Assault
scenario often involves a common goal, with several objectives that must be
met to allow the next part of the level to be traversed. First, one team starts
the map as the Assaulters, and the other starts as the Defenders. The goal is
simple: The Assaulters must complete their mission objectives within the alloted
time, while the Defenders must prevent them from doing so. If the Defenders
manage to prevent the Assaulters from completing their objectives, the Defenders
have won the match. Otherwise, the teams switch sides - Assaulters become Defenders,
and vice versa - and the new Assaulters must complete their objectives faster
than the previous Assaulters did, otherwise, they will lose. Careful teamwork
is needed here, often requiring that one or more members sacrifice their lives
for the good of the team, or act as decoys to draw out enemy fire and allow
their teammates to complete an objective.
Assault is not a gametype that I have done much work
in. I had been working on one Assault map (Urbania Nova) for a few months, but
when UnrealEd2 crashed one day, it destroyed my map's BSP and it will no longer
open for editing. Undaunted though, I am eager to began working on several new
Assault maps, and I have planned out scenarios for several levels in this gametype.
There are no maps available for download here yet. Check back at a later date once I have completed some.
